In Detail

This is a step-up from the 95 litre entry level freezer and provides an additional 40 litres in a package only about 8cm wider and 8cm deeper. All for only around £20 more.

Stand Out(side) Feature

Like most people, you may not have space to accommodate a chunky cabinet around the house, but Fridgemaster have your back!

They've confirmed this freezer is suitable for outbuildings such as garages, even if the temperature gets as low as -15 degrees Celsius thanks to its WinterGuard feature.

On the other hand if you will be keeping it indoors, the contemporary black finish looks a bit more stylish than a boring white one!

User feedback is very good overall, with people praising both the freezer's compact size and suitability for the garage. Another basket wouldn't go amiss though and the manual could be clearer, although thankfully it's an easy to use product.

Cool and Not-so-Cool

We are pleased to see the freezer has a drain port located at the front which will make defrosting easier - some freezers hide this around the back meaning you'll have to move the unit around a bit.

One wire basket is supplied, and there's just space for another if you wish (around £30) though that will somewhat restrict access to items lower down in the freezer.

One omission is there is no counterbalanced lid, so it won't stay open at an angle unless you hold it up - most rivals do include such a lid.

Also, the recessed handles in the lid annoyed quite a few users - they would have liked a proper handle at the front in the usual place.

The sleek black finish, while modern and stylish does make it a little difficult to read the controls on the control panel as they are all black too! (Tip: Apply a dab of bright nail varnish to the arrow pointer!). This unit is also available in a traditional white version.

Our View

As a compact chest freezer that is suitable for garage and outside use, this does tick most of the boxes especially at such a low price. In fact, it's barely £20 more than its much small brother so if you have room for another 8cm (the extra width on this one) then it represents very good value.

Is this freezer frost free?
No freezers are currently frost free. Manufacturers recommend defrosting twice a year. Unplug the drain port at the front to let defrosted ice from inside run off into a suitable container.

Does this freezer have a 'step' inside?
Yes, in common with most freezers there is a boxed-off area at the bottom that contains the motor electrical components. This is not included in the 142 litres of storage.

How much clearance do I need to fully open the lid?
You need at least 50cm in order to open the lid enough to reach inside.

The freezer is compact and nice white glossy finish. The inside is spacious and has a basket. I fit my monthly shopping plus meals I prep to freeze for later. The freezer is quiet, I have it in my livingroom and don't notice it. A brill reasonably priced freezer

Purchased freezer - which I’ve installed in the garage - to provide extra capacity since the integrated indoor/kitchen freezer is small. It’s a great little unit, simple to set up, no fuss holds its temperature perfectly, seems fine in the garage. Well pleased overall.

This is a good size for a family of 3. Holds about 7 bags of food. The lid has hand grips on 3 sides which is a good idea, as I've had to put in cupboard side ways. Makes lifting the lid easy. Runs quite quietly.
