IN A SENTENCE...
One of the cheapest chest freezers on the market that works in the garage
This is a small chest freezer by Essentials, an own brand from Currys that focusses on no-frills appliances at value for money prices.
This freezer has 95 litres of usable storage making it most suitable for a single or two person household, or perhaps an overflow freezer for a family.
- Counterbalanced lid stays open and won't slam down on you
- Winter Security means it will work outside in the garage safely
- Front drain port is convenient for defrosting
One wire basket is supplied, and there's just space for another if you wish (you can buy from Currys Partmaster for about £30) though that will of course restrict access to the rest of the freezer given that it's only 54cm wide.
Thanks to its Winter Security feature this freezer is suitable for outbuildings such as garages, even if the temperature gets as low as -15 degrees Celsius. It is still relatively rare to see this on a small freezer at this price level.
The recessed handle in the side irked a couple of people and they felt it slightly fiddly compared to a proper handle at the front.
The freezer has a drain port located at the front which will make defrosting easier. Some freezers will have this port located in an awkward position - or none at all and you will need to bail out the melted ice from inside!
This is one of the cheapest chest freezers that you can keep safely in the garage. People like its compact nature and that it just gets on with the job.
